I have been a long-time member of the
Gauge O Guild Technical Committee and I have acted as Reviews Editor for the Gauge O Guild Gazette. For my sins, I am currently chair of the Technical Committee and a Board member.
When I'm not building model railway engines or just messing about in the workshop, I am a design engineer, specializing in turbomachinery (turbines, pumps, compressors, fans, etc). My training and expertise is in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, but along the way I have picked up enough knowledge about mechanical design and manufacturing processes to be able to talk intelligently about them as well. As a consultant, I provide services to a variety of equipment manufacturers, and to a lesser extent users and operators also.
I have also acted as an expert witness in legal submissions.
I also provide a range of post-experience courses in various aspects of turbomachinery design and analysis. These are intended for starting engineers, experienced engineers who are moving job function or just need a refresher and an exposure to new ideas, and to managers and sales personnel who need to speak the language of turbomachinery.
Finally, I am author, editor, and publisher of a range of engineering textbooks
